What are polynucleotides?
These are the new kids on the block in aesthetics medicine. Polynucleotides are an injectable bio-stimulator that are crafted from salmon or trout sperm which are purified DNA fragments and encourage collagen and elastin production, two essential proteins within the skin that decrease with age, by boosting fibroblast cells, promoting tissue regeneration and restoring skin tone and elasticity. They offer antioxidant and hydrating benefits, alongside bio-remodeling effects, resulting in healthier and more youthful-looking skin.
What can Polynucleotides treat and what results can you see?
I think the most exciting area Polynucleotides can be used is under the eyes. The tear trough, dark circles under the eyes and sagging skin can be really improved. It also helps with lumpy or sunken scars, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, inflammed skin, general signs of facial ageing, eyebrow and scalp hair loss. It’s also great for treating a wrinkly neck, décolleté, inner arms, thighs, and knees. The skin will have be able to reduce unsightly pigmentation and improve skin quality, thickness and hydration.
So in theory it can be used most commonly in the Face, Eyes and Neck.
Benefits of polynucleotides?
Research shows that polynucleotides can increase collagen by up to 47% in 23 days and help create a thicker, healthier epidermis with improvements of 52% in 23 days. With a range of applications, the benefits of polynucleotides include:
* Stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to improve skin elasticity and firmness, enhancing the results of other treatments, as well as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin
* Reducing inflammation, restoring volume and hydration to the skin
* Helping to protect the skin from damage caused by the sun
* Little downtime compared to other injectables
How many sessions do i need?
The treatment generally involves 2-3 sessions depending on severity of issues spread 3 weeks apart for optimal results. The amount of sessions is dependent on the client and it also depends on the degree of ageing your tissue has and your ability to create quality tissue when stimulated. Thereafter, to maintain the incredible effects, we recommend 1 treatment every 6-9 months.
What is the difference between Profhilo and Polynucleotides?
Both Profhilo and Polynucleotides will give radiance and glow to the skin. Profhilo is a mixture of non BDDE hyaluronic acid (low and high molecular weights) that stimulate collagen whilst it is present in the skin for 28 days. The aesthetic benefits are there for around 4-6 months. There is some emerging evidence there may be a stimulation of good facial fat in that time.
In contrast Polynucleotides have no artificial hyaluronic acid and they stimulates your skin to produce collagen, elastin and it’s own HA resulting in biorevitalisation of the skin.
In conclusion Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid (HA) moisturising treatment that deeply hydrates and leaves the skin with a glowing complexion.
Polynucleotides are a bio-stimulant, regenerates damaged, sagging skin and is best for treating signs of ageing.
Are Polynucleotide injections painful?
Treatment is generally very tolerable. If needles are used they should be exceptionally thin and everyone should receive numbing cream (also known as local anaesthetic). A cannula (a blunt tipped needle) is often used and if used at the correct plane delivers products under the skin with just one needle hole, so bruising and discomfort is minimised.
